Child Advocacy Center of Northeast Missouri Welcomes New Facility Dog

WENTZVILLE, Mo. — Children and families from Lincoln County who receive services through the Child Advocacy Center of Northeast Missouri will soon have the support of a new four-legged team member.

The Child Advocacy Center recently welcomed York, its second facility dog. York will work alongside the center’s forensic services team, providing comfort to children during forensic interviews and helping them feel safe while discussing difficult experiences related to abuse.

Facility dogs receive specialized training similar to service dogs and are specifically trained to work in professional settings. At the Child Advocacy Center, York will help children reduce anxiety, provide emotional support during interviews and other services, and create a more comforting environment throughout the healing process.

“The Child Advocacy Center is honored to welcome York as our second Facility Dog and are so grateful for our partnership with CHAMP who made it possible,” Executive Director Julie Seymore said in a news release. “York represents another important step in our commitment to creating a safe, comforting, and healing environment for the children and families we serve.”

The Child Advocacy Center of Northeast Missouri serves a 14-county region, including Lincoln County, providing forensic interviews, family advocacy, mental health therapy and prevention education for children affected by abuse.
