Lincoln County Commissioners Discuss Highway 47 Closures, Dangerous Intersection Concerns & Major Equipment Upgrades

Lincoln County, Mo. — Lincoln County Commissioners spent much of Tuesday morning discussing ongoing road projects, intersection safety concerns, county equipment upgrades, and facility improvements across multiple county properties during the May 12, 2026 commissioners meeting.

One of the larger discussions of the meeting centered around growing safety concerns at the intersection of Spielhagen Road and Gibison Road near expanding subdivisions outside Troy.
County officials stated they have received increasing complaints from residents regarding drivers reportedly failing to stop at the intersection despite additional stop signs, rumble strips, pavement markings, and enforcement efforts already being implemented.
Officials confirmed crash data is now being reviewed to determine whether additional traffic control changes or intersection redesigns may eventually be needed as development in the area continues growing.
Road and bridge crews also provided updates on multiple drainage and culvert projects throughout the county.
Crews recently replaced a damaged pipe on Big Box Road after it was reportedly damaged during field burns. Additional work was completed on South Lindsey, Woody Road, Jones Road, and several other locations dealing with drainage problems, culvert replacements, and roadway repairs.
County officials additionally discussed ongoing dust control operations and asphalt overlay projects currently underway throughout Lincoln County.
Officials stated portions of Highway 47 near Linns Mill Road will experience temporary closures while utility and boring work continues tied to the larger Highway 47 expansion project. Message boards and notifications have already been sent to nearby schools and residents regarding the closures.
The highway department also discussed future equipment upgrades and purchases, including possible new automatic transmission road tractors, a future water truck, sweeper equipment, and additional asphalt-related equipment.
Officials explained automatic transmission vehicles are becoming increasingly necessary as more employees entering the workforce are no longer trained on manual transmission equipment.
Several updates were also provided regarding county buildings and renovation projects.
At the Sheriff’s Office, officials stated another HVAC compressor recently failed despite previous repairs. Replacement costs are reportedly being covered under warranty while technicians continue attempting to determine what is causing the repeated failures.
Additional updates were given involving Justice Center painting projects, restroom renovations at Complex One, landscaping upgrades, lighting improvements, camera system repairs, HVAC servicing, and office relocation work tied to ongoing county renovations.
Commissioners also discussed replacing the temporary sign outside the county highway department building after the current sign became damaged over time.
Near the end of the meeting, commissioners appointed Danny Richards to serve on the county’s Transportation Advisory Committee, citing his familiarity with county roads and community involvement.
