Fentanyl, Meth and Firearms Found During Arrest of Wanted Felons in Moscow Mills

MOSCOW MILLS, Mo. — U.S. Marshals arrived at a Moscow Mills home in April looking for two wanted felons. By the time authorities were finished inside the residence, another man was at the center of a separate investigation involving fentanyl, methamphetamine and two firearms.
Trent M. Canady, of Moscow Mills, was inside the E. Port Au Prince Lane home when authorities arrived April 17. What began with suspected fentanyl capsules observed inside the residence eventually led to a search of Canady’s bedroom, where additional suspected drugs, uncapped needles and two firearms were discovered.
Laboratory testing later confirmed fentanyl and methamphetamine.
Canady now faces three felony charges in Lincoln County and is in custody.

The investigation began April 17 at 1074 E. Port Au Prince Lane.
Members of the U.S. Marshals Service went to the residence to arrest two wanted felons. Canady was also inside the home but was not identified as one of the two people authorities had gone there to arrest.
As U.S. Marshals personnel collected personal belongings for the two wanted individuals, multicolored capsules suspected of containing fentanyl were observed in plain view.
The discovery expanded what had begun as an effort to take two wanted people into custody.
Canady identified the master bedroom as his and provided verbal and written consent for authorities to search it.
Inside, numerous uncapped needles were found near the bed and on the bathroom vanity. The search also uncovered more multicolored capsules suspected of containing fentanyl and a bag containing a white crystalline substance suspected of being methamphetamine.
Authorities also found a revolver in the bedroom and a shotgun in an attached closet.
The evidence was sent for further testing.
The shotgun was test-fired and determined to be functional. Laboratory analysis of the suspected narcotics confirmed the presence of fentanyl and methamphetamine.
The case against Canady followed several months later, with the probable cause statement signed July 23.
Canady was ultimately charged with second-degree drug trafficking, possession of a controlled substance and unlawful use of a weapon.
An arrest warrant set his bond at $35,000 cash only.
If released, Canady is also subject to several conditions, including no contact with victims or co-defendants, no mind- or mood-altering substances, enrollment in RISE UP controlled-substance monitoring within 24 hours and GPS monitoring with real-time tracking.
Canady is currently in custody.
Court records show an initial appearance was scheduled for Aug. 18 before Judge Michael R. Jacobs in Lincoln County Associate Circuit Court.
The case remains pending in Lincoln County.
