Customer Knocked Unconscious During Hawk Point Gas Station Argument
Updated: Oct 8
HAWK POINT, Mo. — An argument at a Hawk Point gas station escalated when another customer stepped in to calm the situation.
The September 26 confrontation at the Phillips 66 on South Highway 47 has resulted in a felony assault charge.
Jeffrey Letson, Hawk Point, Missouri

CHARGES
Third-degree assault — Class E felony
Around 5:30 p.m., Letson was yelling and cursing at the gas station clerk when another customer approached to settle the dispute.
Letson is accused of punching the customer, who fell and struck his head on the concrete. The customer lost consciousness.
An officer arriving at the station found Letson kneeling beside him. The customer had injuries to his mouth and a cut on the back of his head.

Paramedics treated the customer at the station before transporting him to a hospital in Lake Saint Louis with complaints of head, neck and back pain.
Letson acknowledged throwing the punch but said he had not intended to knock the customer unconscious. He was arrested and taken to the Lincoln County Jail.
During a later conversation at the jail, Letson explained what had brought him into conflict with the clerk: his son had obtained caffeine pouches, and he confronted the clerk about them.
Letson maintained that the customer approached him aggressively during the argument. The assault charge describes the customer’s intervention as an effort to calm the situation.
Letson also repeatedly attempted to speak with the injured customer while officers were at the station.
His bond conditions prohibit contact with the victim. The case remains pending under 26L6-CR00621.
