The case began Tuesday morning when police received a report of a small child walking alone near Willow Street and Main Street in Troy.

Officers eventually located the child near Monroe Street. The child was barefoot, visibly upset, and reportedly complained about their feet hurting.

As officers worked to figure out where the child belonged, the investigation eventually led them back to Ashley Redd at a nearby residence in Troy.

Police later determined the child had walked nearly a mile away from the home without anyone realizing the child was gone.

During the investigation, officers also learned the child had reportedly wandered away from the residence on previous occasions as well.

Authorities further allege Redd was not authorized to have unsupervised custody of the child at the time due to existing restrictions involving foster care placement and supervised visitation requirements.

The investigation additionally revealed the children had allegedly stayed overnight at the residence multiple times despite those restrictions.

Redd was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon and remains jailed as the case moves through the court system.
