Anhydrous Ammonia Leak Prompts Evacuations, State of Emergency in Troy
TROY, Mo. — UPDATE: Evacuation orders have now been lifted, and residents affected by this morning’s anhydrous ammonia leak are clear to return home.
Emergency crews had been working the active leak near Highway J and Bobeen Lane while waiting for a large ammonia cloud in the area to dissipate.

Emergency crews remain on scene of an active anhydrous ammonia leak near Highway J and Bobeen Lane in Troy, where residents are being evacuated and a state of emergency has been declared.
As of Friday morning, Sept. 4, the hazardous materials incident remains active, and it is not yet known when evacuation orders will be lifted.
Lincoln CountyWatch first reported crews on scene shortly before 6 a.m. after an anhydrous ammonia tank began leaking in the area of Highway J and Bobeen Lane.
Law enforcement began evacuating residents in the surrounding area while emergency crews continued working the scene.
The evacuation area has since expanded to include portions of Excalibur Boulevard, Treasure Island Drive and Hamlet Drive.
A large cloud remains in the area, and officials are waiting for it to dissipate before the situation can move toward being cleared. It remains unclear how long that process will take or when evacuated residents will be allowed to return.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office announced a state of emergency for Troy because of the ongoing hazardous materials incident.
Residents are being told to stay clear of Highway J and Bobeen Lane and follow instructions from emergency personnel while crews continue working.
Lincoln CountyWatch has reached out to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and Lincoln County Emergency Management for additional information about the incident and ongoing response.
As of Friday morning, crews remain on scene and evacuation orders remain in effect. There is currently no confirmed time for when residents will be allowed to return.
Once the immediate situation is cleared, residents should follow the City of Troy’s Facebook page for direct updates from city officials.
Residents in and around the affected area should continue following instructions from emergency personnel and avoid the area while crews remain on scene.
