Deputy Struck by Van During Warrenton Bicycle Chase
WARRENTON, Mo. — A Warren County sheriff’s deputy was sideswiped by a cargo van while chasing a bicyclist across Highway 47, then pushed himself away from the vehicle and continued the pursuit despite pain from the impact.
Jason Douglas Duff, Warrenton, Mo.

CHARGES
Resisting or interfering with an arrest, detention or stop — Class A misdemeanor.
Around 6:45 p.m., the on duty Sergeant was outside the Rocket gas station at 715 N. State Highway 47, speaking with Duff’s wife about the couple’s possible involvement in a burglary. During that conversation, he spotted a man matching Duff’s description riding a bicycle toward Proper Cannabis.
The deputy’s account describes Duff glancing back when called, then accelerating through the dispensary parking lot toward Taco Bell.
The deputy returned to his marked patrol vehicle, activated its emergency lights and siren, and followed into the Taco Bell and Walgreens parking area. There, he made eye contact with Duff before the bicyclist rode past the passenger side of the patrol vehicle and entered Highway 47.
Several commands to stop went unanswered. The deputy left his vehicle and followed on foot as Duff continued across the roadway.
While trying to reach Duff, the deputy was struck by a white cargo van. The deputy described pushing himself away from its side and continuing to chase. His account states that Duff kept riding despite further commands to stop.
The court issued an in-custody warrant Oct. 1 under case number 26BB-CR00728. Although the deputy’s initial statement described a felony resisting-arrest offense, the filed charge is a Class A misdemeanor.
