TROY, Mo. — Lincoln County road crews are moving forward with paving, drainage and roadside maintenance projects while continuing cleanup efforts following weekend storms that brought down trees across portions of the county.
The Lincoln County Commission received an update on current Highway Department operations during its regular meeting Tuesday, July 14.
The morning meeting moved steadily through routine county business, with elected officials, department leaders and county employees in attendance. No members of the public attended the morning portion of the meeting.
Jeremy Partl of the Lincoln County Highway Department reported that crews were actively paving Sand Run Road Tuesday morning. The asphalt overlay project was expected to be completed by the end of the day or early Wednesday.
The Highway Department also completed its portion of a coordinated paving project with the Missouri Department of Transportation on Monday. Work finished ahead of schedule, allowing the roadway to reopen approximately 30 minutes earlier than expected.
Following completion of the project, the county submitted an invoice of approximately $9,000 to MoDOT for its portion of the work.
Additional roadwork is expected to begin next week, with crews preparing to place pug mix on Preach Road before continuing to McIntosh Hill.
The Highway Department is also coordinating future roadway striping, including white edge lines along designated county roads.
Dust-control work is scheduled to continue Wednesday. Scottwood Industries is expected to reapply magnesium chloride along Preach Road, Bohemian Church Road, Paris Branch Road and Radiman Road.
Magnesium chloride is commonly applied to unpaved roads to help reduce dust and stabilize the road surface.
Weekend storms created additional work after high winds brought down trees in several areas of the county. Highway Department employees worked Saturday to remove fallen trees and other obstructions from county rights-of-way.
Commissioners recognized the department’s response and thanked employees for working to quickly clear affected roadways.
Roadside mowing was recently completed along St. Alphonsus Road, Bohemian Church Road and Creech Lane.
Crews are also continuing culvert replacements along Blackmore Road between Herger Lane and the end of the existing asphalt. The work will replace aging drainage infrastructure before additional roadway improvements move forward.
Several pieces of Highway Department equipment are undergoing repairs. A roadside arm cutter remains out of service, while crews are addressing an oil leak involving a dump truck. A primary brush hog returned to service Monday, allowing scheduled mowing work to continue.
Lincoln County Assessor Kevin Bishop also raised a brief question regarding pending repairs to a door at the county-owned fort property. County officials briefly discussed the maintenance request before continuing with the remainder of the morning agenda.
Additional items on Tuesday’s agenda included a project-management update from Robert Henebry and consideration of a Hazard Mitigation Plan resolution presented by Dawn Mowery of the Boonslick Regional Planning Commission.
Representatives from the Missouri Department of Transportation were listed on Tuesday’s agenda but did not attend the meeting. Lincoln CountyWatch received a separate update from MoDOT that will be covered in an upcoming article.
The commission was also scheduled to open bids for a new or used 130-horsepower agricultural tractor before entering a closed session to discuss legal and contractual matters.
Lincoln CountyWatch coverage concluded before the commission completed the remaining afternoon agenda and scheduled closed-session business.
Lincoln CountyWatch will continue following county road projects, infrastructure improvements and other decisions made by the Lincoln County Commission.
