Troy Man Charged With 11 Felonies After Purse Stolen From Dollar General

TROY, Mo. — A purse disappeared from a table inside a Troy Dollar General. Before police even arrived, one of the cards inside it had already been used at another business.
By the end of the investigation, officers had recovered the purse and 11 credit and debit cards belonging to two victims, and a Troy man was facing 11 felony charges.
Aaron Scott Dunn of Troy is charged in Lincoln County with 11 counts of felony stealing.

• Stealing — All Other Property, Class D Felony — Count I-XI
The case began shortly after 6:40 p.m. Aug. 5 when Troy Police Officer Joshua Cross responded to Dollar General at 8 Lincoln Center for a stolen purse.
While Cross was responding, dispatch reported that one of the victim's cards had been used at Troy Tobacco and Vape.
Surveillance video showed a man wearing a black Mickey Mouse shirt, black shorts and tennis shoes enter a restricted area of the store, look around and take a pink checkered purse from a table. The purse was concealed before the man left the store.
Other Troy officers located a man matching the description in the parking lot near Scooter's Coffee. The man was identified as Dunn and detained.
Inside the purse were 11 credit and debit cards along with Skullcandy earbuds valued at approximately $30.
Six of the cards belonged to one victim and five belonged to a second victim.
The 11 felony counts correspond to the individual credit, debit and benefit cards prosecutors accuse Dunn of taking. The charging documents identify cards associated with multiple financial institutions and payment services, including an Emerald Mastercard, United Credit Union Visa, Cash App Visa, Netspend Mastercard, WIC cards, a Food Stamp card, PayPal Mastercard and a debit Mastercard.
After being advised of his rights, Dunn admitted stealing the purse. Another credit or debit card was found on him, which he also acknowledged did not belong to him.
The purse was later located in a wooded area west of Scooter's Coffee.
Dunn also admitted attempting to throw some of the cards into a trash can. All of the credit and debit cards were eventually recovered and returned to the two victims. The Skullcandy earbuds had not been recovered when the probable cause statement was completed.
The warrant application also lists multiple prior stealing convictions and states Dunn was on parole for second-degree burglary at the time of the incident.
Judge M. Jacobs found probable cause and issued the arrest warrant Aug. 6, setting bond at $100,000 cash only and ordering Dunn to have no contact with the victims.
Dunn remains in custody.
