Troy Man Accused of Punching, Choking Woman in Assault Caught on Video

TROY, Mo. — Multiple witnesses had their phones recording as a confrontation at a Lincoln County home turned violent Tuesday night, capturing portions of an alleged assault that left a woman bleeding from the back of her head.
By the following morning, Rex Stacey Truesdell, of Troy, was in the Lincoln County Jail. He now faces a felony third-degree assault charge.
The woman had gone to the residence shortly before 8 p.m. Aug. 11 to retrieve property. At least two witnesses were present as the situation escalated, leaving deputies with more than one recording of what happened.

The videos captured the confrontation from different points as it unfolded.
One showed the woman walking up a set of stairs toward Truesdell before the two became physical. As they struggled, another person stepped in, took possession of a pistol box and tried to separate them.
Truesdell pushed that person away before turning his attention back to the woman.
Another recording captured Truesdell drawing his hand back and punching the woman in the head with a closed fist, knocking her backward. The confrontation continued, with video showing Truesdell putting the woman in a chokehold and striking her in the head while she was seated.
When deputies arrived, the woman had an approximately one-inch cut on the back of her head and a large knot near the middle of her head.
There was another side to how the confrontation began.
Truesdell told the deputy the woman came up the stairs toward him after he told her to stop. He said she continued toward him and attacked him.
He also pointed to another potential piece of evidence: a Ring doorbell camera on the front porch. Truesdell said it may have recorded the encounter but he could not access the footage at the time. He was told to preserve anything captured by the camera.
Truesdell was arrested and taken to the Lincoln County Jail.
A warrant followed Aug. 12.
Judge Michael R. Jacobs set Truesdell's bond at $10,000 cash only and imposed conditions for any release. Truesdell is prohibited from having contact with the victim or any co-defendants and must be placed on GPS monitoring with real-time monitoring before leaving custody.
As of Thursday, Truesdell remained in the Lincoln County Jail.
The case returns to court Aug. 18 at 1:35 p.m. for a bond review hearing in Lincoln County Associate Division III.
