Vehicle Traveling Approximately 100 MPH Before Crash With Law Enforcement Vehicle Near Hawk Point

HAWK POINT, Mo. — A vehicle traveling approximately 100 mph before sunrise Wednesday collided with a Warren County Sheriff’s Office supervisor’s vehicle near Highway 47 and Witt Road, sending the other vehicle roughly 200 yards into a cornfield.

The crash happened before 6 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, in Lincoln County.

The Warren County Sheriff’s Office supervisor was traveling on Highway 47 while heading to work when the second vehicle approached the highway eastbound on Witt Road. Information gathered by Lincoln CountyWatch at the scene indicated the second vehicle was traveling approximately 100 mph before the collision.

The impact sent the second vehicle off the roadway and deep into a nearby cornfield, where it traveled approximately 200 yards before coming to a stop.

The distance the vehicle traveled initially created concern that the driver may have left the crash scene. A nearby homeowner came outside after noticing vehicle lights in the cornfield, and the driver was ultimately located with the vehicle.

The driver was temporarily detained as law enforcement worked to determine what had happened.

Despite the speed and severity of the crash, no injuries were reported.

Emergency crews work near Highway 47 and Witt Road following Wednesday morning’s two-vehicle crash.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol took over the crash investigation following the collision involving the law enforcement vehicle.

One of the people involved described both drivers as “very lucky to be alive,” telling Lincoln CountyWatch that a difference of only seconds in the vehicles’ timing could have resulted in a much different outcome.
