Updated: 3 days ago
WINFIELD, Mo. — Winfield is accepting applications for a new police chief after Lincoln CountyWatch confirmed that Brian Wideman is no longer employed by the city.
The city’s new posting advertises a part-time chief of police working fewer than 30 hours per week, with pay ranging from $26.91 to $28.91 an hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
The reason for Wideman’s departure has not been publicly disclosed.

Wideman delivered the police department’s report at the October 8 Board of Aldermen meeting. The city is now seeking applicants to oversee its law enforcement operations, with interviews scheduled for November 2–4 and an anticipated start date of November 9.
The chief’s responsibilities include directing department operations, managing its budget, supervising personnel, developing policies and working with residents and other law enforcement agencies.
The city’s accompanying job description requires at least seven years of experience as a commissioned police officer, including three years in an executive role at the rank of lieutenant or above. Applicants must also hold Missouri POST certification, remain current on required training and possess a valid driver’s license.
Preferred qualifications include a related associate degree, at least five years of supervisory experience in law enforcement and experience working with the public and media. You can see the job posting below.
Applications for the part-time police chief position are due October 23. Interviews are scheduled for November 2–4, with the selected candidate expected to begin November 9.
Mayor Nicole Hanson told Lincoln CountyWatch that Officer Dwayne Lewis will serve as interim police chief while the city conducts its search. Hanson said Lewis will not take over as the permanent chief.
Hanson also confirmed that Winfield is seeking part-time police officers. Those interested can obtain an employment application through the city’s careers page or contact City Hall at 636-668-8100.
This is a developing story. Lincoln CountyWatch will provide updates as additional information becomes available.
