Old Monroe Sergeant Injured After Patrol Car Is Hit Following High-Speed Pursuit
OLD MONROE, Mo. — A traffic stop involving a pickup traveling more than 130 mph turned into a pursuit along Highway C Saturday night. Before officers could locate the suspect who crashed near Highland Prairie Road, an unrelated driver struck the pursuing sergeant’s patrol car from behind.
The impact pushed the marked police vehicle off the roadway and caused what the Old Monroe Police Department described as catastrophic damage. The sergeant suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated and later released.

Lincoln CountyWatch contacted the Old Monroe Police Department after reporting the crash Saturday night. Chief Marsonette provided additional details Sunday about the separate events that brought multiple agencies to Highway C near Highland Prairie Road.
The incident began at approximately 10:30 p.m. while an Old Monroe police sergeant was conducting routine patrol in a marked vehicle.
The sergeant attempted to stop a light-colored pickup traveling on Highway 79 at more than 130 mph. As the officer entered the highway and activated his emergency lights and siren, a motorcycle traveling directly behind the pickup accelerated and began driving erratically, including traveling in the opposite lane.
Both vehicles slowed and exited Highway 79 at Highway C before continuing west at a high rate of speed. The pickup and motorcycle passed other drivers erratically as the sergeant pursued them and alerted surrounding law enforcement agencies.
As one of the suspects approached Highland Prairie Road, the driver failed to negotiate a curve and left the right side of the roadway. The Police Department’s release did not specify whether the vehicle that crashed was the pickup or the motorcycle.
After leaving the roadway, the suspect attempted to enter a bystander’s vehicle that had stopped to assist with traffic control. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries suffered in the crash.
Police have identified the suspect and plan to seek charges through the Lincoln County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. The suspect’s name and the specific charges being considered have not been released.
Before officers located that suspect, the Old Monroe sergeant was getting out of his patrol vehicle when another driver struck it from behind. Police said that driver was not connected to the pickup, motorcycle or pursuit.
The force of the collision shoved the patrol vehicle off the roadway. The other driver was not injured and was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated. The Missouri State Highway Patrol is handling the investigation into that portion of the crash.
The pursuit suspect and the sergeant were both taken to local hospitals for treatment. The sergeant’s injuries were described as minor, and he was released from the hospital.

The department has not publicly identified either the pursuit suspect or the driver arrested for DWI. It also has not clarified which of the two fleeing vehicles crashed near Highland Prairie Road or whether the second vehicle and its driver have been located.
The Old Monroe Police Department is asking anyone who saw the light-colored pickup or motorcycle in the area between 10 and 10:30 p.m. Saturday to contact Chief Marsonette at cmarsonette@cityofoldmonroe.gov or 636-661-5112.
The department thanked the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Missouri Department of Conservation, Lincoln County Ambulance District, Lincoln County Fire Protection District, Old Monroe Fire Protection District and Lincoln County 911 for assisting during the incident.
The investigation remains ongoing.
