Lincoln County Highway Director Eric Tapley Resigns After Nearly 30 Years

Lincoln County, Mo. — For nearly 30 years, Eric Tapley has helped keep Lincoln County moving.

From flooded roadways and damaged bridges to major infrastructure projects and everyday maintenance, Tapley has spent more than 29 years serving the residents of Lincoln County through the Highway Department.

Now, that chapter is coming to an end.

Lincoln County Highway Department Director Eric Tapley has announced his resignation, with June 20 set to be his final day with the county.

His departure marks the end of a career that has spanned one of the most transformative periods in Lincoln County’s history. During his tenure, the county experienced significant population growth, increased development, major road and bridge improvements, severe weather events, and rising demands on local infrastructure.

Tapley described the decision as bittersweet.

“I’ve dedicated 29 plus years to Lincoln County, and it will be hard to walk away from my county family. I’m leaving behind many friends and colleagues for sure,” Tapley said.

While many residents may assume a departure after nearly three decades means retirement, Tapley said he plans to continue working after leaving county government. After completing more than 29 years of service, he has earned his retirement eligibility and is looking forward to the next chapter.

Tapley did not disclose details about his next position.

For many residents, the Highway Department is most visible during road projects, winter weather, flooding events, or when crews respond to storm damage. Behind those efforts is a department responsible for maintaining hundreds of miles of county roads, bridges, culverts, and drainage infrastructure throughout Lincoln County.
