Hawk Point, Mo. — The Hawk Point Board of Aldermen moved through a full agenda Monday night with all four aldermen present, approving several key items including an agreement tied to federal immigration enforcement reimbursements and a nearly $100,000 road project.
All four aldermen — Steven Fair, Tom Boling, Shawn Ellis, and Joe Cushing — were in attendance, along with Mayor Mark Seigler. The meeting was brief and moved efficiently through both old and new business.
One of the most notable items came under old business, where the board approved Ordinance 287G in a 3-1 vote. The ordinance allows the city to enter into an agreement with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for reimbursement related to certain law enforcement activities.
Mayor Seigler clarified following the meeting that the agreement is strictly for reimbursement purposes and does not change how officers proactively police immigration matters.
He explained the agreement would apply in situations where an individual is already stopped or arrested for unrelated offenses, allowing the department to be reimbursed for time or resources tied to immigration-related processing. Seigler emphasized that officers maintain discretion and that the city will not be engaging in proactive enforcement actions such as door-to-door operations.
Alderman Shawn Ellis cast the lone vote against the ordinance.
The board also discussed the city’s water tower inspection and cleaning. Concerns were raised about the amount of water that will be lost during the process, as the contractor recommended not attempting to store or reuse the water due to logistical challenges. The total amount of water loss and timeline for the project remain uncertain.
Under street improvements, the board approved a chip and seal bid totaling $98,905.98 in a unanimous 4-0 vote. The work will include the following roads:
Washington Street
West Lincoln Street
East Lincoln Street
Duncan Street
Walnut Street
The project is expected to begin within the next couple of months.
The Hawk Point Police Department also presented its monthly report, showing 21 calls for service, 73 business checks, and 33 traffic stops.
The meeting concluded without extended discussion and moved into adjournment after covering all scheduled items.
