Driver Seriously Injured After Crossing Median, Hitting School Bus Head-On on Hwy 61

Moscow Mills, Mo


UPDATE (April 23, 2026 — 2:45 PM CST):


Additional details have been released confirming the crash occurred when a southbound 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan, driven by a 27-year-old male from Troy, crossed the median and struck a northbound bus head-on.


The driver of the Tiguan sustained serious injuries and was transported by Lincoln County Ambulance District to SSM Health St. Joseph Hospital in Lake St. Louis.


The bus involved, a 2019 Thomas Built, was driven by a 39-year-old male from Lake St. Louis. No serious injuries were reported for those on the bus.


Both drivers were reported to be wearing safety devices at the time of the crash.

Emergency crews remain on scene of a crash involving a school bus and a passenger vehicle Thursday morning, with multiple injuries reported and traffic heavily impacted along Highway 61.


The crash occurred in the area of Highway 61 northbound and Highway C in Moscow Mills.


The collision involved a passenger car and a bus in what has been described as a crossover-style crash.


Initial information indicates three people were injured, with two reported as minor and one moderate.

The bus involved is a First Student bus and had two adults on board at the time of the crash. No children were on the bus.


Emergency crews from Lincoln County were among the first on scene and remain actively working the crash.


Traffic in both northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 61 is reduced to one lane, causing significant delays in the area.

The cause of the crash has not yet been released.

Thank you for the information! I would like to recommend a correction: I believe today (the day of the accident) is Thursday rather than Friday. I'm glad I'm not the only one who wants to just put an end to a frustrating week.
