Elsberry Officials Respond to Police Department Rumors as Closed Meeting Draws Attention

Elsberry, Mo — Questions are circulating across the community after multiple tips and messages raised concerns that the Elsberry Police Department may be dissolved. City officials confirm that is not the case — but a special meeting tonight is drawing attention.


Lincoln CountyWatch received multiple tips and inquiries from residents asking about the status of the Elsberry Police Department, with some expressing concern that the department was being shut down.


To verify the information, Lincoln CountyWatch contacted Elsberry City Clerk Rachel regarding the situation.


She confirmed that a special meeting is scheduled for tonight at 5:30 PM and will include a closed session.


When asked directly about the status of the police department, she stated the department is still in operation and is not being dissolved, describing those claims as rumor.

Lincoln CountyWatch also asked about the department’s Facebook page, which is currently down. Rachel confirmed the city is aware of the situation and stated she could not comment on that at this time.


When pressed for additional details regarding the purpose of the meeting or what may be discussed, she stated she could not comment further until the board completes what it needs to do.


City officials indicated they expect more information to be released soon.
