The mower had originally been reported stolen May 1 from a property in Old Monroe along with another mower and a hand crank jack. After the stolen mower was later discovered concealed in a wooded area west of the subdivision, investigators placed a GPS tracking device and motion-activated trail camera on the equipment while monitoring the location.

On May 14, deputies returned to the area after the GPS device showed movement behind a nearby property. Investigators later reviewed surveillance images and identified Hauk’s truck near the stolen mower.

During an interview later that evening, Hauk admitted he had been at the location and stated he was attempting to get gas from the mower after being told where it was located. Investigators say Hauk acknowledged the circumstances appeared suspicious and admitted he searched for the mower after learning where it had been hidden.

Court records reviewed by Lincoln CountyWatch show Hauk has prior theft- and burglary-related convictions in both Lincoln and Warren counties, including previous prison sentences and probation terms tied to stealing and burglary cases dating back to 2022 and 2024. Investigators also noted Hauk acknowledged prior criminal history involving stolen property during the current investigation.
