Troy, Mo. — A reported sexual assault call inside a Troy neighborhood early Wednesday morning ended minutes later in a fiery rollover crash that claimed the life of a 25-year-old Arkansas man.
According to information released by the Troy Police Department, officers were dispatched around 3:13 a.m. Wednesday to a reported sexual assault at a residence on Thorndell Way.
While officers were en route, dispatch advised the suspect had reportedly fled the scene in a white pickup truck after allegedly striking a neighboring mailbox while leaving the area at a high rate of speed.
A short time later, officers spotted a vehicle matching the description traveling northbound near South Lincoln Drive. Police stated the truck was speeding, swerving in and out of its lane, and at one point crossed into the officers’ lane of travel, nearly striking two responding police vehicles head-on.
Believing the driver could either be the reported sexual assault suspect or an impaired driver, officers activated their emergency lights and sirens and attempted to stop the vehicle.

Before officers could safely catch up to the truck, the vehicle left the roadway near MO-47 and Gates Drive around 3:21 a.m., overturned, struck multiple objects, and burst into flames.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report states the truck traveled off the right side of the roadway before overcorrecting and crossing back off the left side, striking a cable box, ditch, fence, and utility tractor before catching fire.
Due to the severity of the crash and rapidly growing fire, responding officers, deputies, firefighters, and EMS personnel were initially unable to safely reach the driver trapped inside the vehicle.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by Lincoln County fire personnel at approximately 3:36 a.m.
The Lincoln County Coroner’s Office later identified the driver as Randy L. Burnett, 25, of Madison, Arkansas.
Troy Police stated the Missouri State Highway Patrol has assumed the investigation into the crash itself.
No additional information regarding the reported sexual assault investigation has been released at this time.
Lincoln CountyWatch will continue following the investigation and provide updates if additional information is released by authorities.
All individuals are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
