TROY, Mo. — A temporary lockdown at Troy Middle School and nearby Claude Brown Elementary School was lifted Tuesday after law enforcement determined there was no current credible threat to students or staff, following an anonymous report involving concerning online communication.
According to information provided by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and Lincoln County R-III School District officials, school administrators were notified of the report approximately 15 minutes prior to the lunch period on Tuesday, January 20. The report referenced specific timing and a specific location, prompting an immediate response out of an abundance of caution.

The information originated from an anonymous report involving concerning online language and communication that occurred off school property over the weekend. Authorities emphasized that no weapon was reported, located, or involved at any point during the investigation.
Due to the specificity of the report and the proximity to the lunch period, school administration immediately contacted the school resource officer, who notified dispatch. A coordinated response was initiated, and incident command was established.
As part of the response, Troy Middle School and Claude Brown Elementary School were placed into lockdown while a physical sweep of Troy Middle School was conducted and interviews were completed.
Multiple agencies responded and assisted with the investigation and scene management, including:
Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office
Troy Police Department
Missouri State Highway Patrol
O’Fallon Police Department
Missouri Department of Conservation
Following the sweep and interviews, law enforcement determined there was no current credible threat. In consultation with responding agencies, the lockdown was lifted, and students continued their school day.
School officials stated that increased police presence remained on site for the remainder of the day, along with additional school counseling support made available to students and staff.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the incident is not related to any recent events in Winfield and that there is no connection between the two matters.

Authorities also confirmed that an individual was identified and interviewed as part of the investigation. Because the matter involves a juvenile, state law strictly limits what information can be released. The juvenile was not arrested and is not in custody, and the situation is being addressed through appropriate juvenile and school administrative channels.
Officials stressed that the response was precautionary, driven by the timing and specificity of the report, and that the goal in situations like this is early intervention and prevention.
Parents are encouraged to continue speaking with their children about the importance of reporting concerning statements or behavior so issues can be addressed promptly.
The investigation remains ongoing. Any additional information will be released only if officials determine it is relevant to the public.
