Police were conducting surveillance at a Moscow Mills residence after receiving information that Meidel had returned to the home and was wanted on active felony warrants.

When officers moved in to make the arrest, Meidel ran toward the house.

Police entered the residence, but Meidel was nowhere to be found.

Officers later discovered what appeared to be an escape route through a basement window. Cardboard had been placed where broken glass once existed, steps had been positioned against the outside wall, and a swimming pool ladder led away from the area.

The search quickly expanded beyond the residence.

About 15 minutes later, deputies located Meidel in a wooded area near Highway MM. Deputies closed in and took him into custody.

The arrest comes as Meidel was already wanted in Montgomery County on a felony stealing case.

That case stems from allegations that Meidel and others took fire hydrant components, manhole frames, and other metal items from behind the Jonesburg Fire Department in May 2025. Authorities estimated the value of the property at more than $750.

A failure-to-appear warrant was later issued in that case after Meidel failed to appear in court.

Now, in addition to the Montgomery County case, Meidel is facing a new felony charge in Lincoln County stemming from Monday’s arrest.

All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
