Winfield, Mo.- A Lincoln County man is facing multiple felony charges, including Domestic Assault in the First Degree, Armed Criminal Action, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Abuse or Neglect of a Child, following a domestic-related shooting that left a juvenile injured inside a Winfield residence earlier this month.


Lincoln CountyWatch first began reporting on the incident the night it occurred after receiving a community tip about police activity and an area taped off near Silver Spur Drive. As questions circulated locally regarding public safety, LCW reached out to officials and confirmed details that evening as the investigation unfolded.


Court records now identify the defendant as Denny Troy Fitzwater, a Winfield resident. Fitzwater has been formally charged with multiple felony offenses connected to the January 3 incident, including Domestic Assault in the First Degree resulting in serious physical injury, multiple counts of Armed Criminal Action, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and multiple child-related endangerment and abuse charges. Fitzwater was confirmed to be in custody, and bond was set at $150,000 cash only, with conditions ordered by the court.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that deputies were dispatched to a local hospital after receiving a report that a juvenile male arrived at the emergency room with a gunshot wound. Authorities stated the juvenile reportedly drove himself to the hospital to seek medical treatment. At the time, the injury was described as not believed to be life-threatening.


During the same investigation, deputies also responded to a residence in the Silver Spur Drive area. Law enforcement confirmed that an individual connected to the incident was located at the residence and taken into custody without incident. Preliminary information provided by officials indicated the shooting occurred during a domestic-related dispute inside the home.


According to the probable cause statement, multiple individuals were present inside the residence at the time of the incident, including children. Investigators allege a firearm was discharged inside the home, resulting in the juvenile being struck and seriously injured. Officials stated there was no indication of an ongoing threat to the public following the arrest.
