TROY, Mo. — A quick stop at a Walmart ATM in Troy turned into a criminal case after police say a debit card accidentally left behind was picked up and used by another shopper minutes later.
The incident happened Friday evening at the Walmart on East Highway 47 in Troy, where a customer used the ATM inside the store to withdraw cash before walking away — unknowingly leaving their debit card behind in the machine.
It didn’t take long before someone else noticed.

Charges
• Stealing – All Other Property (Felony)
Bond for Warhausen has been set at $15,000 cash only. Warhausen is currently in custody at the Lincoln County Jail, and a bond review hearing is scheduled for March 17, 2026, at 1:30 PM in Associate Division III at the Lincoln County Justice Center in Troy.
About 45 minutes later, the victim checked their banking application and realized something wasn’t right.
Police say the debit card had already been used.
Officers responded to the store and began reviewing surveillance video from the ATM area.
Investigators say the footage showed a man later identified as Hunter Ryan Warhausen of Moscow Mills approaching the ATM shortly after the victim left.
Authorities say Warhausen remained near the machine briefly before leaving with the debit card.
A short time later, investigators say the same man was seen attempting to use the card at a checkout register inside Walmart, where he tried to purchase a prepaid money card.
The transaction was declined.
Police later located Warhausen inside the store and took him into custody.
Investigators say Warhausen acknowledged the debit card did not belong to him and admitted attempting to use it.
Authorities also discovered attempts had been made to transfer money using a mobile payment application connected to the card.
Warhausen was transported to the Lincoln County Jail following the arrest.
A charge is merely an accusation. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
