Authorities responded to a two-vehicle crash on eastbound Interstate 70 near the Wildcat Drive exit ramp in Warren County shortly after 10 a.m. Wednesday.

According to charging documents, Winters was driving a 2025 Chevrolet Silverado when it struck a tractor-trailer while merging onto Interstate 70. The impact caused significant damage to both vehicles and left the Silverado disabled.

After the crash, Winters left the scene on foot and contacted his supervisor, identifying himself as the driver involved in the crash. He reportedly asked that nobody contact anyone about the incident and requested a ride to the Super 7 Inn in Wright City.

A subsequent records check revealed Winters was wanted by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office in Texas on an active felony warrant for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

Using phone pings, witness information and surveillance footage, authorities located Winters inside Room 204 of the Super 7 Inn at 13100 Veterans Memorial Parkway.

Troopers contacted Winters by phone and requested that he exit the room. After approximately 40 minutes, Winters had not surrendered.

Members of the Wright City Police Department obtained a search warrant for the motel room. Officers from the Wright City Police Department and Truesdale Police Department then forced entry into the room and took Winters into custody without injury or further incident.

Winters was transferred to the custody of the Missouri State Highway Patrol and later booked into the Warren County Jail.

Judge Jonathan Andrew Yelton found probable cause for the charges and ordered Winters held without bond pending trial.
