Water Main Break Near Thornhill Cemetery Road Prompts Boil Advisory in Lincoln County

Lincoln County, Mo. — Residents in parts of Lincoln County were placed under a precautionary 48-hour boil advisory Wednesday following a water main break near Thornhill Cemetery Road, according to PWSD #1 of Lincoln County.

Questions about the advisory began circulating online after residents claimed they had not seen public notification regarding the break or boil order.

A resident contacted Lincoln CountyWatch Wednesday morning stating concerns that some customers may not have been aware of the advisory following the water main break.

The resident referenced a water main break near Thornhill Cemetery Road and questioned whether alerts regarding the boil advisory had been properly distributed to affected customers.

Lincoln CountyWatch reached out to PWSD #1 of Lincoln County for clarification regarding the situation.

According to the office manager for PWSD #1, the water main break occurred around 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, near Thornhill Cemetery Road.

PWSD #1 stated alerts were sent out regarding the break and the advisory, and the incident was also posted to the district’s website alerts page.

The district explained that customers who lose water pressure or water service during a main break are automatically placed under a precautionary 48-hour boil advisory once water service has been restored.

Lincoln CountyWatch also spoke with a PWSD field manager, who explained that restoration times can vary significantly across the district due to the size of the rural water network and how water pressure is restored through different portions of the system.

Because of that, the advisory timeframe is based on when service is restored to each individual customer rather than one universal restoration time across the district.

The field manager said the best way for residents to stay updated on outages, restorations, and boil advisories is by signing up for PWSD #1 alerts through the district website.

As of Thursday morning, the district stated the water main break had been repaired.

Residents can sign up for alerts through the PWSD #1 of Lincoln County website.
