Troy, Mo — What began as an attempt to take a wanted man into custody quickly escalated into a dangerous situation in the roadway before ending with a Taser deployment and arrest.
Austin J. Waggoner, of High Ridge, Missouri

• Resisting Arrest by Fleeing (Felony)
• Trespass – 1st Degree (Prior)
• Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Prior)
Officers made contact with Waggoner around 11:16 PM on April 27 near North Lincoln Drive and Agnes Drive in Troy.
Waggoner was known to have an active felony warrant out of Lincoln County, along with additional warrants through the Troy Police Department.
When officers attempted to take him into custody, Waggoner refused commands and began backing away before running from the scene on foot.
As he fled, Waggoner ran into traffic, creating a dangerous situation for both himself and others in the roadway. One officer was forced to brake abruptly to avoid striking him.
Officers continued to give commands, but Waggoner did not comply.
A Taser was then deployed, bringing him to the ground.
Even after being tased, Waggoner continued to resist by refusing to place his hands behind his back and keeping one hand concealed beneath his body. After repeated commands, he eventually complied and was taken into custody.
During the arrest, an officer sustained an injury to their left hand, resulting in swelling and difficulty using it.
Waggoner is now facing a new felony charge of resisting arrest in addition to the outstanding warrants.
All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
